What one sale leaves after costs, fees and ads at each ROAS. Red rows lose money; the first green row is the lowest ROAS that pays.

At 2.50× each sale keeps $8.99. Break-even is 1.72×; your target is 2.33×.

How it's calculated

  • Revenue per order = price + shipping charged
  • Fees = revenue × fee %
  • BECPA = revenue − product cost − shipping cost − fees
  • BEROAS = revenue ÷ BECPA
  • Target CPA = BECPA − revenue × target margin
  • Target ROAS = revenue ÷ target CPA
  • Profit at a ROAS = BECPA − revenue ÷ ROAS

Questions

Break-even return on ad spend: the ROAS at which a sale makes exactly zero profit. It is revenue per order divided by what is left after product, shipping and fees (the BECPA). A $50 product that leaves $20 before ads has a BEROAS of 2.5× — every $1 of ads must bring back $2.50 of revenue.

ROAS is what your campaigns actually return: revenue divided by ad spend. BEROAS is the floor they must clear. Put them side by side: a 3× ROAS on a product with a 2.5× BEROAS is profit; the same 3× on a 4× BEROAS product is a loss on every sale.

Break-even cost per acquisition: the most you can pay in ads for one sale and not lose money — revenue minus product cost, shipping and fees. Ad platforms report cost per purchase, so BECPA is the number to hold it against.

Lower is better, because it is easier to beat. Most dropshipping products land between 1.5× and 3×; above 4× means a thin margin that cold traffic rarely clears. Raising the price, bundling or cutting shipping cost moves BEROAS more than better ads do.

No. Add an allowance for refunds and chargebacks to the product cost (3–5% of price is common in most niches), and treat platform-reported ROAS with care — it usually over-attributes, so leave yourself a buffer above BEROAS.
